Job Description:
Job Goal: To maintain all school buildings and facilities and
surrounding grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that
educational use of all facilities can be optimized.Minimum
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil, Electrical
or Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- Preferred Master's Degree; Administrative Certification
- Minimum of 5 years' administrative experience
- Demonstrated Management and Leadership Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of School City
FacilitiesDuties and Responsibilities:
- Uses computer applications such as spreadsheet, word
processing, email, calendar and database software in the
performance of the job.
- Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs
and maintenance. Establishes and recommends priorities on repair
projects.
- Assigns and supervises crews of craftspeople for maintenance
work such as replacing worn or defective wiring, switches, faucets,
plumbing fixtures, and repairing fencing, asphalt, concrete, and
ceiling.
- Inspects work performed by custodial or maintenance employees
or private contractors to ensure proper cleaning, maintenance,
repair and grounds keeping procedures are being followed, checks
for safety and health hazards, and makes recommendations for
correction and improvements.
- Makes determinations about the scope of maintenance and/or
repair activities and decides which can be accomplished by in-house
maintenance staff and which are to be contracted out.
- Plans, coordinates and conducts periodic inspections of all
facilities required by local, state or federal law such as fire
inspections, asbestos inspections, insurance safety inspections and
annual visual inspections of all school facilities as required by
City and State to ensure compliance with applicable codes and
standards.
- Assists the school district administration in the preparation
of bid specifications, review of bids and by making recommendations
on bids concerning capital and/or maintenance projects.
- May be required to attend Board of Education meetings and
address the Board regarding school facilities maintenance and
operations activities.
- Develops a system for dealing with emergency repairs problems
with efficiency.
- Prepares reports in costs of work done, materials used, labor
expended.
- Orders materials as needed, and makes recommendations of
supplies and equipment for purchase.
- Assigns work orders, checks drawings and plans.
- Consults with building principals regarding the establishment
of regular preventative maintenance programs.
- Recruits, screens, recommends for hiring, and trains all
craftspeople, teamsters, maintenance personnel necessary to the
operations of the school.
- Advises on the hiring of contractors to perform certain
maintenance or repair services.
- Coordinates, supervises, and participates in the grounds
maintenance and gardening work of the district's schools and
related facilities.
- Confers with school principals, consultants, architects, and
other parties in making plans for landscaping, planning and the
maintenance of various school grounds.
- Establishes personnel schedules and maintains such personnel
records as are needed.
- Evaluates staff members.
- Performs whatever other duties as may be assigned from time to
time.Working Conditions and Physical Environment: Must have the
ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit
manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer
terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical
agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the
floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally
exposed to angry students/parents and neighborhoods considered to
have high levels of violence potential.This job description in no
